Winter Day Camp Part I
Come explore VIA Aquarium during your holiday break! Campers will gain a deeper understanding of ocean life through activities and exploration!
Full Day of Camp: 10:30am – 4:00pm, $65 for nonmembers and $55 for members
Half Day of Camp: 10:30am – 1:30pm, $35 for nonmembers and $30 for members
Camp activities will include hands-on animal encounters, behind-the-scenes tours, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, science experiments, and more.
Please pack your campers with a prepared lunch, a change of clothes (in case they get splashed during the stingray feedings and other animal encounters), and closed-toed shoes.
Recommended for children in 1st through 6th grade, please note Friday is recommended for 3rd through 6th grade.
Tuesday, December 26th - Aquatic Animal Morphology & Movement: Aquatic creatures come in all shapes and sizes, for many different reasons. Join us for a day of discovering the “hows” and “whys” of aquatic animal movement. Activities will include an adaptation scavenger hunt around the aquarium, simple movement experiments, and designing your very own sea creature.
Wednesday, December 27th - Stellar Sharks: Spend a day learning about and meeting the sharks of Via Aquarium. Activities will include a presentation about sharks, their myths, and their misconceptions, an epaulette shark touch tank, and a leopard shark feeding.
Thursday, December 28th - Incredible Invertebrates: Campers will learn about the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates then embark on a tour to find and meet the invertebrates of Via Aquarium. Activities will include a beach detective program to find and identify invertebrate shells, as well as hands-on learning with sea stars, urchins, horseshoe crabs, and moon jellies.
Friday, December 29th - Junior Aquarist Day: Come learn the ins and outs of working at an aquarium! Explore the basics of water chemistry and monitoring, animal husbandry, and more. Activities will include a behind the scenes tour focused on tank equipment, meet and greets with the aquarists of Via Aquarium, and projects related to aquarium maintenance and exhibits. *Recommended for grades 3-6*
